U of M/Guthrie Theater Partnership

Guthrie-U of M partnership logos
The Guthrie Theater and the University of Minnesota began their relationship when renowned director Sir Tyrone Guthrie established the theater that bears his name. A key reason why Guthrie chose the Twin Cities for his flagship theater was the stimulating academic and artistic environment of the University of Minnesota. Recognizing the potential for collaboration, former U of M theatre arts program head Dr. Frank Whiting and Guthrie soon partnered to establish adventurous, groundbreaking educational programs that succeeded in serving the nation.

More than 40 years later, the U of M/Guthrie Theater BFA Actor Training Program continues this partnership with an innovative curriculum based upon the artistic vision of the Guthrie Theater and the academic integrity of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota.
